More concrete needed!

Monday 30th July 2012

More Concrete please...

The homefield reporter is on holiday! I am standing in....

So more big holes in the ground needing concrete. The footings for the new retaining wall in the garden   was poured today by Bob and Sandy our resident ground workers. The 'Mayflower' is still floating....just.
Garage footings are half dug and the HUGE pile of soil has been carted away today by Billy, the neighbour with a digger, and Jim, the Farmer with the tractor and trailer. Bill will be coming by later no doubt to talk until the cows come home.
'The Mayflower' - Actually it is a section shuttered off to allow water to drain to ground when the flower bed is above.

Building the walls up to DPC

27th July 2012. Today dad got three people to build the walls up to DPC (damp proof course) which is below the floor level. It was even worse than having the "moats" around the house because there are now mini walls surrounding the house making it very difficult to enter.  Here are some pictures of the walls.

Digging around the back

26th July 2012. Nothing much has happened today. Here is a couple of things that has happened, the ground works men dug out the steps so that they could make some permanent ones. They also dug a couple of inches down around the back. While they were digging they found some asbestos (probably buried by the last owner.) Being very careful they put the asbestos in bin bags to take to the dump where it will be packaged up.

Pouring in the cement

The cement being poured into the new foundations.

The cement mixer.
25th July 2012. It was amazing to see the cement being poured out of a cement mixer. Three truck loads of cement was poured in the new foundations for the house. With regulations we now have to have such wide and deep foundations which is a lot of money. Also dad was allowed to drive the dumper truck, he loved it!

24th July 2012. Today the groundworks men have started digging around the back of the house it was quite a shock to see that there was a trench around the back door. If it wasn't for dad's quick thinking of using old doors as pathways we would be stranded, because there are trenches around all the doors of the house it's like a moat!

The Groundworks

23rd July 2012. Today the groundworks men including Bill and Jim came to dig up the front garden. Mum was sad to see that the plant beds were gone, however there will soon be new plant beds in there place after the extension. The ground works men will soon be digging around the back garden. Here are some pictures.
